No, not me but two of local filmdom's brightest young talents. Maverick director Yam Laranas is directing a remake of his own movie, "Sigaw", for the producers of "The Ring" and "The Grudge". It's now called "The Echo" and it's set to star Jesse Bradford ("Flags Of Our Fathers") in the role originally played by Richard Gutierrez. Reprising her role as the battered wife is lovely, lovely Iza Calzado who, it's been reported, beat out several Hollywood actresses for the part.
The last time a Pinoy had a major supporting role in a Hollywood movie was three years ago when Cesar Montano played the role of Capt. Pajota in the WWII film "The Great Raid". Prior to that the first and only time a local talent headlined a Hollywood film was in the 50s when Barbara Perez was cast as the leaidng lady in another war film, "No Man's Land".
Behind the cameras, this is the first time ever that a Filipino director is helming a mainstream Hollywood movie. A monumental achievement -- one worthy of a presidential citation, I declare!
Shooting takes place in Toronto and New York in September. This "echo" should be ready to fill cinemas next year.
